MarqVision launches a conversational AI agent and adds new leaders to strengthen its global position

Press release

  • The conversational AI agent chats with sellers on social media, identifies counterfeits with over 99% accuracy and takes action immediately
  • Available in the dashboard of Marq AI, the industry's first brand protection solution built on generative AI
  • Global experts join across AI and machine learning, customer success and marketing, including world-renowned brand protection expert Charlie Abrahams as senior advisor

MarqVision (CEO Mark Lee), which provides an AI-based integrated IP solution, has added a new conversational AI agent to the dashboard of its flagship solution, Marq AI, to tackle counterfeits sold through social media chats. The company also announced that it is strengthening its industry leadership with new hires and accelerating its global growth.

According to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), 123,475 counterfeits sold on social media were caught from January to October 2024, about three times as many as in 2020. Of the 203,954 online counterfeit transactions KIPO caught last year, 60% were sold through social media, more than through portal sites (34%) or open marketplaces (9%).

As Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other social platforms become new channels for counterfeits, fast monitoring and enforcement matter more than ever. The problem is growing as counterfeit sellers also use AI to operate cleverly in legal blind spots.

Marq AI's conversational AI agent combines OpenAI's GPT models with MarqVision's own proprietary technology to recognize social media posts suspected of selling counterfeits in many languages, including English, Chinese and Korean. It then chats with the seller in real time to determine within minutes whether the item is counterfeit or illegally sold, automatically collects the evidence needed for a takedown request, and takes action. MarqVision is the first in the world to launch a generative-AI feature that takes action against this new breed of malicious social media seller with over 99% accuracy.

The conversational AI agent is available in Marq AI, which detects and takes action against counterfeits, unauthorized sales and more.

MarqVision has also hired global experts across brand protection, AI and machine learning, customer success and marketing. The goal is to add leadership with key hires and expand its influence in the global market.

Most notably, world-renowned brand protection expert Charlie Abrahams joins as an advisor. A pioneer of online brand protection since the field's earliest days, he spent 13 years as an executive at MarkMonitor. With his broad experience and deep insight, MarqVision adds further expertise in brand protection.

Rino Lee, who joins as head of AI, turned cutting-edge research into real applications and developed data-driven machine learning products at Google TensorFlow. He holds a PhD from Stanford University and until recently was chief technology officer (CTO) of the data security startup Desilo.

Jake Morgan, head of brand protection, brings broad experience in product and operations management. He was senior director of brand management at the major US law firm Vorys, and worked alongside advisor Charlie Abrahams at MarkMonitor for more than 13 years, leading a global brand protection organization of up to 500 people.

Joseph Yang, who led customer success strategy at the all-in-one recruiting platform Gem, joins as global head of customer success, and Christina Kim, formerly director of product marketing at Google and at Navan, a travel and expense management software company, joins as head of marketing.

“Based on my 20-plus years of experience, I am confident that the conversational AI agent from MarqVision, with its unmatched expertise in online brand protection, will bring innovative change to the market,” said new advisor Charlie Abrahams. “I will begin working with MarqVision in earnest with a webinar series on the state of brand protection in 2025.”

“We expect the conversational AI agent to be the starting point for the innovative services MarqVision is pursuing, by spotting malicious sellers' clever tactics on social media and helping brands respond quickly to counterfeits,” said Mark Lee, CEO of MarqVision. “Adding strong leadership to MarqVision's firm commitment to protecting the intellectual property (IP) and reputation that are a brand's most valuable assets, we will accelerate innovation and lead the brand protection industry worldwide.”
