MarqVision took action against 50.41 million counterfeits and illegal content last year, up 65.6% year over year

Press release

  • Threats to brand IP, including counterfeits, unauthorized sales, illegal content and impersonation, blocked at a rate of 5,755 an hour
  • Enforcement against counterfeits and unauthorized sales up 65.8% year over year to 1.61 million cases; “fashion and accessories” the top category
  • New impersonation takedown service took action in 3,479 cases in its first month; Marq AI's unmatched technology made the difference

MarqVision (CEO Mark Lee), which provides an AI-based integrated IP solution, today announced the enforcement results its flagship solution, Marq AI, achieved last year against threats to brand IP (intellectual property rights), including counterfeits, unauthorized sales, illegal content and brand impersonation.

According to MarqVision, it took action against malicious sellers misusing brand IP through counterfeits and unauthorized sales, and blocked illegal activity such as illegal content and brand impersonation, in a total of 50,416,809 cases last year. That works out to 5,755 cases an hour.

Enforcement against counterfeits and unauthorized sales rose 65.8%, from 970,000 cases the year before to 1.61 million. The category with the most counterfeits was fashion and accessories, at 28.8%, followed by beauty at 7.3%.

Takedowns of illegally distributed content also rose 65.4%, from 29.5 million in 2023 to 48.8 million. By type of content, game software led with 38%, followed by webtoons and web novels at 34%, and movies and TV dramas at 22%. MarqVision attributes the increase to a rise in malicious sellers and illegal content distributors riding the popularity of K-content, from K-fashion and K-beauty to games, webtoons and web novels, as it sets trends in markets around the world.

The impersonation takedown feature, launched last November to fight the recent surge in impersonation of companies and public figures such as financial firms and influencers, also delivered notable results, taking action in 3,479 cases in about a month.

The results are credited to Marq AI, the brand protection solution built on MarqVision's unmatched technology. The industry's first generative-AI-based brand protection solution, Marq AI uses AI deep learning detection to find counterfeits and unauthorized sales across some 1,500 marketplaces in 180 countries, and handles ▲24-hour automated monitoring ▲automatic collection of the evidence needed for enforcement ▲takedown requests to each marketplace. Its innovations include generative AI that automatically writes and sends warning letters and takedown requests, and AI that chats directly with malicious sellers over social messaging to collect evidence of counterfeit sales.

For illegal content, MarqVision uses large language models (LLMs) to automatically monitor, verify and remove webtoons, web novels, movies and more, and its AI technology also removes impersonation of companies and public figures.

“Our outstanding results come from relentless work to protect the value of brands by solving the many IP problems that hold back their growth, built on our unmatched technology,” said Mark Lee, CEO of MarqVision. “We will keep innovating for the growth and protection of brands, including launching new features and services that keep pace with changing malicious sellers and the online environment.”
