MarqVision shares its brand IP protection results with SJ Group and deepens the partnership

- SJ Group, home of fashion brands such as Kangol, in its fifth year with Marq AI: 130,000 enforcement actions against counterfeits and unauthorized sales in total
- Malicious seller activity down sharply since last year, as sustained enforcement cut off distribution at the source
- SJ Group also invested in MarqVision in 2024: “We will keep working closely together”
MarqVision (CEO Mark Lee), an AI-based integrated IP solution company that provides its flagship solution, Marq AI, to companies of all kinds to protect their brands' IP (intellectual property), today shared the results of its work with SJ Group, one of Korea's leading fashion companies.
SJ Group runs popular fashion brands such as Kangol and Helen Kaminski. In April 2021 it became the first company in the fashion industry to adopt Marq AI, to protect its brand IP and strengthen consumer trust in its brands.
Now in its fifth year with Marq AI, SJ Group had taken action against a total of 134,776 counterfeits and unauthorized sales of its brands as of January 2025. That is worth some KRW 415.024 billion in economic value, and a significant share of it is believed to have turned into additional revenue. The same work is also far more efficient than before SJ Group adopted Marq AI.
Most notably, malicious sellers' distribution of counterfeits and unauthorized sales have clearly declined. When SJ Group adopted Marq AI, counterfeits and unauthorized sales were growing as sellers rode the surging global popularity of K-fashion, and enforcement volumes were rising with them. Last year, however, enforcement volume fell 24.6% from the year before, turning into a decline, and in January this year it was down a full 83% from last year's monthly average. MarqVision attributes this to sustained monitoring and enforcement through Marq AI, which cut off malicious sellers at the source, with some giving up on selling SJ Group's brands altogether.
Marq AI, the industry's first generative-AI-based brand IP protection solution, played a big part in these results. Using AI deep learning detection, Marq AI monitors counterfeits and unauthorized sales around the clock across some 1,500 marketplaces in 180 countries and on social media. Its Seller Intel feature, which quickly identifies and analyzes malicious sellers, proved especially effective. Seller Intel uses AI to read traits such as the order of the product images a seller uploads, titles and keyword patterns in product details, along with data such as business registration numbers and addresses, to identify malicious sellers working as organized groups. Built on the insight that the top 1% of malicious sellers sell 30% of all counterfeits, it goes beyond finding counterfeits to cutting off malicious sellers' offline distribution networks.
Recognizing MarqVision's capabilities and growth potential, SJ Group made a direct equity investment in MarqVision in 2024. Following its early adoption, the investment reflects SJ Group's strategy of embracing AI technology to accelerate the protection of its brands' intellectual property and become more resilient to uncertainty in the consumer goods industry.
“Working with an AI-based IP solutions company is an investment in our long-term value and sustainability in a fast-moving fashion market,” said Juyoung Lee, CEO of SJ Group. “Marq AI plays an important role not only in protecting consumers and maintaining trust in our brands but in our business efficiency, so we will continue this close partnership between fashion and AI.”
“SJ Group is one of our flagship customers: it adopted Marq AI early to get ahead of counterfeits and malicious sellers, and has successfully protected its brand value,” said Mark Lee, CEO of MarqVision. “We will do our best to deliver differentiated services, including advancing our technology, to meet the needs of companies working to create a safe shopping environment.”
