Press release

MarqVision shares results for Marq Content, which protects IP and copyrighted works: the world’s only AI-based platform that automatically blocks pirated content

  • Identified and blocked 32 million pieces of illegal content last year, worth about KRW 102 billion
  • Marq Content analyzes an average of 30 million data points a day across Google, social media, Discord, Telegram and more
  • Illegal distribution is worst for webtoons and web novels, and movies, TV shows, online courses and games are also widely distributed
  • Class101, Smilegate, Pokémon Korea, Toptoon and others use Marq Content to protect their content

AI company MarqVision announced that it detected and removed more than 32 million pieces of illegal content last year with Marq Content.

The illegal content Marq Content caught in 2023 was worth about KRW 102 billion. Webtoons and web novels made up the largest share (47%), followed by movies and TV shows (31%), online courses (10%) and games (10%). Companies including Class101, Smilegate, Pokémon Korea, Toptoon and PTJ Comics now use Marq Content to actively block illegal distribution of their content.

Launched in 2022, Marq Content is the world’s only AI-based platform that automatically blocks pirated content. It uses in-house image recognition and text analysis technology to monitor and remove illegal content online around the clock. It covers everything from Google, the world’s largest search engine, and social media such as YouTube, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, to closed channels such as Discord and Telegram, illegal streaming services and pirate sites. As of February 2024, it analyzes an average of 30 million data points a day.

All Marq Content services are delivered as SaaS, and a dashboard in the platform shows detailed, real-time information on detections and removals. Data on content type, distribution channel, traffic to the hosting website and scale of damage is organized systematically, making it easier to plan a response.

“Illegal content consumed online spreads quickly by its nature, which makes it hard to monitor manually and take enforcement action one item at a time. Illegal websites and platforms can host hundreds of thousands of pieces of content at once, and distributors use automated tools and algorithms to spread copies,” said MarqVision CEO Mark Lee. “As the content industry grows rapidly around the world, protecting IP matters more every day. We will keep improving our service so we can offer the best solution to companies building global business models.”

MarqVision operates Marq Commerce, a B2B SaaS platform that automates the detection and removal of counterfeits on 1,500 marketplaces in Korea and abroad, including e-commerce sites, social media, NFT marketplaces and standalone websites, and Marq Content, which identifies and blocks illegal content online. Key customers include three brands within LVMH group, MSCHF, Gentle Monster, Ader Error, Shinsegae International and Champion.
