AI company MarqVision (CEO Mark Lee) announced that it is providing its impersonation protection service to detect and take down accounts and posts impersonating well-known investment expert John Lee. After protecting personal finance influencer “Rich Sister” Yu Su-jin from impersonation, MarqVision is now working with John Lee, who has seen a recent surge in impersonation.

John Lee is an investment expert who made his name as a star Wall Street fund manager and served as CEO of an asset management firm, as well as a financial educator who has championed financial education and the importance of investing to free the whole country from financial illiteracy. As head of the financial study group “Rich School,” he shares financial knowledge with the public, and he has written many books, including “John Lee's Rich School,” “John Lee: The Start of a New Decade,” “John Lee's Escape from Financial Illiteracy” and “John Lee's Habits for Getting Rich.” He stays active in financial education through major TV appearances, talks and his own content.

Investment scams that use impersonating accounts stealing John Lee's name and photos to ask for deposits have recently increased across social media, websites and other channels. MarqVision will protect John Lee's work and prevent harm before it happens with its impersonation protection service, which uses AI to detect and take down impersonating content in real time.

MarqVision's impersonation protection service is an AI solution that detects signs of impersonation on websites, social media and messaging apps and takes action, from shutting down sites to reporting on platforms. It stands out for monitoring content shown in Google and Meta ads as well, so it can respond broadly to impersonating content across many channels.

Its data cleansing feature also verifies the accuracy of the data AI collects, for more efficient enforcement. The service's content takedown success rate is currently about 90%.

MarqVision plans to extend the service's detection to deepfake videos and text messages and keep advancing its features to respond actively to every form of impersonation crime. It will add a feature that detects re-uploads of removed impersonating content and alerts customers, and introduce an “impersonation cluster” feature that goes beyond taking down individual content or accounts to identify impersonators operating as organized groups across platforms, for a more fundamental solution.

“We felt we could no longer stand by while so many people were directly harmed by impersonation,” said a representative for John Lee. “Working with MarqVision, we will respond actively to impersonation, minimize the harm it causes and keep earning the public's trust.”

“Impersonation crimes not only damage individuals' reputations and the image of companies and brands but can also cause financial losses, so a fast, systematic response is important,” said Mark Lee, CEO of MarqVision. “As impersonation crimes targeting public figures surge, inquiries about our impersonation protection service are growing too. MarqVision will keep advancing the service to protect individual and corporate customers and to help solve social problems such as financial fraud at their root.”

MarqVision recently raised a KRW 22 billion ($16 million) Series A+ round and launched Marq AI, which integrates its existing products on generative AI technology. The impersonation protection service, offered as part of its brand protection solution, is used by major fintech and financial companies such as Toss, Dunamu, Bithumb and DAOL Investment & Securities, and is drawing strong interest from media and entertainment.
